About the MRCP(UK)

Understand the examination before you prepare for it

The MRCP(UK) Diploma is awarded after completion of three components: Part 1 Written, Part 2 Written and the Part 2 Clinical Examination (PACES). The written examinations use best-of-five multiple-choice questions, while PACES assesses practical clinical examination, communication and judgement skills. Candidates should always confirm their own eligibility, dates, fees and current regulations directly with MRCP(UK).

Part 1 Written

Best-of-five written examination testing applied basic science and clinical medical knowledge. Entry requires a recognised primary medical qualification and at least 12 months of medical employment experience by the examination date.

Part 2 Written

A clinically focused best-of-five examination testing diagnosis, investigation and management. Candidates must first have passed Part 1 and remain within the applicable eligibility period.
